Welcome to Horizons Academy

Horizons Academy of Maui is a non-profit, private school whose mission is to provide quality, individualized education honoring the talents of students with learning diversities.  The school allows the students to excel in school and acquire life skills for their future.  The school currently provides academic services to students in kindergarten through young adults age 21.

Based on the educational philosophy that children have the potential to learn, thrive and succeed when taught using specialized teaching strategies and effective educational “best practices”, the staff identifies the most effective programs, curricula and instructional tools to meet students individual needs.

The staff includes teachers with specialized training in the field of learning disabilities, as well as educational aides, one-on-one sensory cognitive reading and mental health services.  With a staff to student ratio of one teacher to every eight students, each student receives significant individualized attention.  Horizon’s alternative education program has become widely known, respected and recognized not only on Maui but also in the State of Hawaii and North America.  The school is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, is licensed by the Hawaii Council of Private Schools and accredited by the National Private School Accreditation alliance.  Currently we offer individualized programs:

• K-5, 6th-8th grades and High School
• Young adult
